Christian Brueckner (born 1976 in Bavaria, Germany, as Christian Fischer) is a convicted sex offender identified by German prosecutors in June 2020 as the prime suspect in Madeleine McCann's disappearance. Brueckner was living in the Praia da Luz area in 2007, residing in a campervan and a nearby farmhouse. Cell-phone data placed his phone near the Ocean Club on the night Madeleine vanished. The day after her disappearance, he transferred ownership of his Jaguar. He has prior convictions for burglary, drug trafficking, and sexual assault. In 2019, he was convicted of raping a 72-year-old American woman in Praia da Luz in 2005 and sentenced to seven years. He was acquitted of separate sexual offense charges in October 2024 and released from prison in September 2025. He has denied involvement in Madeleine's disappearance and has never been charged in connection with it.
