Palm Beach Police Investigation Opens

March 2005: Palm Beach PD receives initial complaint regarding 14-year-old stepdaughter. Det. Recarey and Chief Reiter begin investigation. October 2005: Search warrant executed at 358 El Brillo Way. Surveillance camera wiring found but recording hardware removed. By end of investigation: ~35 possible underage victims identified, dozens more being tracked. State Attorney Krischer dragged feet on subpoenas, dodged calls from investigators. Reiter publicly accused Krischer of being too lenient, called for FBI involvement.

Death at Metropolitan Correctional Center

August 10, 2019 — 6:30 AM: Guards find Epstein unresponsive, hanging from bunk. Medical examiner ruling: suicide by hanging. Guard misconduct: No 30-min rounds conducted after ~10:40 PM on Aug 9. Staff falsified count slips and round sheets. Surveillance system: cameras stopped recording July 29, not repaired until Aug 14. Unidentified "orange figure" observed on staircase at 10:39 PM Aug 9 (FBI: "possibly an inmate"; OIG: possibly corrections officer carrying bedding). July 23 cell footage permanently deleted — "clerical error." DOJ OIG report documented widespread protocol failures.
